  TITLE: Keeping It Clean
  AUTHOR:
SPOILERS: set during comics pre-series story, 'Viva Las Buffy'.
  RATING: PG-13
  CHARACTERS: Buffy, Pike;
SUMMARY: Maintaining propriety in the face of illegal hormones is not easy.

   "Hey, where's the soap?
Pike recalled fetching a beer; swore.
   "You there?
He froze hearing a splash, tried desperately to keep his mind off the, possibly, naked fifteen year old Slayer coming to kill him.
He slumped, trying to feign sleep; wished he was as dead as the TV.
Pike listened as wet feet padded about, searching for; then finding, the soap.
Knowing she was standing over him he thought, 'Do I snore?
He heard the sound of the door closing; then a soft splash.
Then Buffy tunelessly started in on, "I touch myself.
Pike very nearly took the pledge.

kerkevik_2014: (The Story's Not Done)
Hi,

wrote this in one afternoon; somewhere around three hours I think, on a Sunday when I was without internet. Given that I wrote other stories over that period I'm thinking maybe I should try the internet-less thing more often.

This is a pre-series Buffyverse story; set during World War Two between the summer of 1940 and the last winter of that conflict.

If you have comments on the whole story, then here or at the crosspost on livejournal would be good; comments on individual parts would be preferred at those locations, but here, or at the crosspost will be fine.

So we reach the final part of this epic ten-drabble world war two buffyverse adventure.
The real stars of the show are revealed; Holmes has found the killer has left the stage and we can look back on how things developed.
Well that, as in the 'masterpost' with all parts in one place will happen next week; partly because I want to give anyone who may happen to be actually reading this a chance to read all parts in situ, but also because I'd like to give myself every chance of exploiting this writing flood I have going on. The 'masterpost' will appear by the middle of next week then.
Comments on each section will be most appreciated; but also when that 'masterpost' appears comments there on the story as a whole will be appreciated in separation as 'twere.

A/N: Christmas here can mean whatever you (the reader) think it means. I would suspect that, to beings of our 'heros' vintage, that would mean the night of the 24th into the 25th of December; it could also cover the period of the traditional twelve days of christmas, or the time from shutting up shop on christmas eve to the conclusion of boxing day. I dare say there are other versions of this out there as well. I know when I think these events occur, but the actual time is of no great importance.
Worth remembering that at this time the now-famous 'Band if Brothers' were surviving the harshest of conditions in the Ardennes holding back Hitler's last gasp gamble to save his Reich. I believe he had gone insane by the time of the final collapse, and at this time was merely deluded as to his and countries situation. The defeat Germany experience over this period of weeks may have sent him insane though.
Was Gustav Frensburg merely deluded during the course of this story, or was his blind obsession a kind of temporary insanity? I know what I think, but what you choose to believe is your own decision.

X. Life in Death (Christmas 1944)

They hosted the Slayer at the villa; south of Versailles, where Dru had hidden during the occupation.
They shared their conquests with her as they made love.
His kills had all been Germans, or their collaborators; hers, with her lack of conscience, had been of any stripe that took her fancy, including Jews attempting to escape the Vichy government.
They were making love again when Spike told her how he'd watch Dru despatch the Slayer in Nineteen-Forty.
Then they fed on her together, though it was Dru who made the kill.
Spike was too much a gentleman to deny her.

Penultimate episode now; though if this was a TV show, or possibly one of the better movies this would be the last of the main action before the scene the real fans are rewarded with at the denouement.
This was the other part I had to rework a bit to remove the creeping errors that occur when you have to make changes earlier in the story; it remains the case this ten-part pre-series WWII buffyverse story was conceived and written in a few short hours last Sunday afternoon, while I was internet-less and unsatisfied with what I had on my external hard-drive.
Think I should maybe do that more often?

TITLE: Promises Made to a Lady IX. The Trapping of a Mouse
AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014
LENGTH: 100
A/N: Yes the title IS a play on the title of, possibly, British theatre's most-famous play, and Gustav is finally free of his obsession and is about to be a proper Watcher again, or..?

IX. The Trapping of a Mouse (November 1944)

Burnt down weeks ago, the barn was but a shell, but Gustav settled there to plan his next move anyway.
Finally he understood the leeches movements during the Occupaton. It had never intended escaping Dunkerque; killed Emilie. He had trailed it only to let her real killer escape.
There was still a chance the Slayer was alive; there was silence from the Watcher's.
He kicked a scorched pail; verdamnt, he should have...
It had too patriotic...

Spike rose from the corpse; deliciously licking a trail of it's blood from his chin.
Even he wasn't so stupid as to turn him.

Well it's been an adventure to get this ready. Had to rebuild almost from scratch about ten minutes ao when I managed to delete the whole darn thang!

Anyway this is the eighth in the ten-part drabble series set in the buffyverse during WWII. The ten took a very few hours last Sunday to complete; though necessary fact-checking and a realisation that caused a slight change around here meant two parts had to be reworked to avoid, I hope, plot errors.

A/N: Now we come to the introduction of the, hopefully, surprise guest stars.

VIII. Someone to Watch Over Me (September 1944)

He followed the watcher easily enough; she made little attempt at hiding.
She just seemed to be meeting with former...
Gustav cursed himself for an idiot when it occured to him she was not behaving as a watcher anymore. Then he got wind of the leech's meeting another, a female; insane spawn of Angelus, and not seen outside Paris since it's fall.
And last week had been the Slayer's eighteenth...
Now they were nowhere to be found...
Without thought Gustav headed straight for where he knew the leech would be.

Spike finished his last Gauloise, smiled, and followed their prey.

After a short break for other fandoms to intrude; we are back with my ten drabble pre-series buffyverse fic. The action though slim here is getting more intense... for some. All was written within a few short hours last Sunday afternoon while I was without teh interwebz, which makes me think I should do that more often.
After all, today, I went to the River Ericht, and wrote two drabbles, for two different prompts, in two different fandoms; all the while distracted by conversations with passers-by and their wee doggies...

VII. Lost in France

Its hair was black; uniform allied, but the scar made It unmistakable, even partly hidden by American sunglasses.
He would know It, wherever he saw It.
He screamed his frustration when he saw it escape him once again but, carefully skirting his old unit, he stole a German motorcycle and sped after It.
Not to Dunkerque though.
He was not fooled. The Slayer was ordered to Paris, so that is where It would go.
He was not so blinded by his vow to be unaware that the leech would find greater temptation in the blood of a Slayer.
Nearly over.

This sixth drabble of the ten-part pre-series buffyverse stories sees us still in the early days of the German retreat in the western theatre; which became a collapse after the abortive Ardennes offensive. When I first wrote this; all of which was done while internet-less in a few short hours on Sunday afternoon, my dates were guesswork. Ultimately I decided to remove a specific date, but the original would have been out by nearly a month.
Still, maybe I should mislay my net access more often...

TITLE: Promises Made to a Lady VI. Trapped by the Hunted (August 1944)
AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014
LENGTH: 100
SUMMARY: We are crossing a rubicon of sorts with this story as characters are learning their roles are not what they thought they were; not that their certainty is any more clearly correct than it had seemed.

Feldwebel Marten Neuwenbeke fell this morning guarding the escape of his German SS comrades from the American forces attempting to entrap them east of Argentan. It is recommended that he be awarded, posthumously, an Iron Cross for...

Gustav Frensburg, had he known, would have been amused at the commendation; cold and bitter smile though it would have been.
He was already too far away. He had seen Watcher and Slayer, headed north toward the Canadians forcing closed the gap between Falaise and Argentan.
He had to stay with her; despite the risk.
They were unaware they were become the hunted.

With this fifth drabble we reach the halfway point in this ten-part pre-series Buffyverse epic; we also reach, after Stalingrad, the most important event in the chain leading to the conclusion of World War Two in Europe. Some of the first images in my head of this main character came from this section of the story, though none of them are actually still present.
The whole thing was written in three rapid bursts over a few short hours on Sunday afternoon. Maybe I should lose my access to the internet more often...

TITLE: Promises Made to a Lady V. Messages from the Never Departed
AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014
LENGTH: 100
A/N: It's D-Day and the characters various endgames are beginning to come into play. One note here to be added to the narrative. Gustav was born in Germany on the other side of the border with Alsace, at a time when Alsace was a German province. His Slayer Emilie, though French-speaking, was conceived when Alsace was not yet under French control.

V. Messages from the Never Departed (June 1944)

The Slayer had four hours on Gustav before he hit Juno Beach; he was unconcerned.
Even a Slayer couldn't get ahead of him for days yet.
All changed radically when he found the note left on the body of a Flemish SS gunner.
Riddled with bullets; he was nevertheless not fooled.
As they moved the corpses from the emplacement; he spotted the message.
The German was horrendous, but translated into Quebecois it was crystal clear.
It was taunting him.
It was hunting her.
It helped that there never had been a Captaine Richard Neuvelle for a body to be found.

This is the fourth of the ten-part series I wrote in a relatively short few hours on Sunday afternoon while internet-less and unable to find anything to capture my mind on my external hard-drive. All ten parts are drabbles, and were written as I was learning the story myself.
Perhaps I should lose my internet more often...

TITLE: Promises Made to a Lady IV. Eye of the Mountain Dew
AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014
LENGTH: 100
CHARACTERS: Two new ones; a new Slayer; replacing the one who replaced Gustav's lost Slayer, and a Watcher who may, or may not be (in my head), be related to a series canon watcher.

IV. Eye of the Mountain Dew (May 1944)

Whispers out of Watcher Headquarters reached Gustav early in Forty-Four.
He saw the Slayer himself in late May. She was Canadian-Indian, set to hunting the same leech as himself.
He nearly cursed in German on hearing she was going into Utah Beach; try as he might, he had no chance of being attached to her unit.
He had to calm himself with the knowledge that he would be between her and their target, with ample time to intercept them.
Determined to be there when it was dusted; confident of his tracking abilities, he kept his eye on the real prize.

This is the third in a ten part, all drabbles, pre-series BtVS story; this one covers the greater part of the war. Wrote all ten in a short few hours on sunday afternoon, after I got tired of scrolling through my external hard-drive.
Thinking maybe I should run out of internet bandwidth more often...

III. Blind Determinations (Spring 1941-Spring 1944)

Time after time he got wind of it when he was dropped into France.
Always close, but never close enough; not enough to risk the missions he was on.
Stories was all her heard; only cursed stories; never enough surety in them.
Rumours.
Stories of Germans; sometimes collaborators, disappearing mysteriously; agents rescued from dire need and returned to safety.
But he remembered well its face; that scar, the sneer in its voice; his Slayer lying broken in that barn.
One night he was forced to bed down in the very barn where the leech had killed her.
Her Watcher minded too well.

He watched shoreward as it disappeared over the horizon.
The tiny boat Gustav had been rescued from, sunk by his own people's gunfire.
Its eyes never left him either.
Of that he was certain.
Eyes closed, he could still see it. Too still, and far too heavily bandaged to be anything Human.
Its escape had been prevented; that was some small comfort.
He could still keep his vow.
Gustav thanked his parentage; practicing his rusty Quebecois in his head as he drank the awful englander tea.
Only when it had disappeared entirely did he turn his gaze away from Dunkerque.

TITLE: Promises Made to a Lady I. Death in Life
AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014
LENGTH: 100 words
CHARACTERS: All OC until the last couple of parts, unless you're paying attention of course.
SUMMARY: The story is about previous watchers and slayers, or seems to be, and is set between the fall of France in 1940 and just subsequent to the liberation of Paris in 1944.

I. Death in Life (May 1940)

Gustav found Emilie in an abandoned barn close to Dunkerque.
His Slayer had been killed by the leech, that was unmistakable.
He buried her deep; making sure her remains could not be misused.
She was Alsatian; he technically an enemy now, but he was able to give her the Catholic service.
They had that in common; she would have wanted it, and he owed his Slayer that.
Their tenure had always been stormy; his stubbornness had them part in anger.
Sending her to her death.
Picking up its tracks, Gustav made for Dunkerque; only vengeance on his mind now.
