This was written yesterday evening, so can be seen as evidence that the flow of these drabbles is continuing. This, as with the others is intended as a birthday pressie for elisi

  TITLE: A Key's Shadows

  AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

  FANDOM: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

  CHARACTERS: Lisa; Dawn Summers;

  LENGTH: 100,

SUMMARY: Every relationship brings its secrets; especially on the Hellmouth.

A/N: This is set at some point following Dawn's conversation with Tara; no worries over spoilers here, safe to say, in the tradition of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe, that Lisa is, as yet, unaware of Dawn's true origins.

Lisa raced up to the canteen table; late, but full of enthusiasm at the thought of seeing Dawnie. They'd no classes together today, and this might be her only chance at seeing her.

She felt her optimism begin to evaporate as she took in Dawn's expression.

   She'd been crying.

Breaking their rule she placed a hand on her new girlfriend's; they were still very new; they'd only just come out to themselves about it.

She wasn't certain she should worry that Dawnie didn't pull away.

When she did, it was reluctant; as if she was afraid.

   Now, so was Lisa.

This one was conceived ; written; edited and, now posted this morning as the latest in a set of fics written for elisi 's birthday.

  TITLE: The Shadows of Reality

  AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

  FANDOM: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

  CHARACTERS: Tara Maclay; Dawn Summers;

SUMMARY: People's fears and insecurities never go away really; some learn to hide them better that's all.

A/N: Sometimes I wish we'd seen more of Tara the Mom on the show; Willow being the Dad in most people's fanfics, which I can see actually, and honestly who would Dawn go to when things begin to develop with Lisa?

     “Gotta trust her Dawnie.

   Dawn muttered.

   “It's that simple.

Tara stared steadfastly back into Dawn's frustrated, miserably apologetic eyes. “What did you expect me to say?

Dawn laughed bitterly, “You're worse than...

   “You're sister?” Tara suggested.

“Mom,” completed Dawn, sticking her tongue out, apathetically, when Tara winked; thanking her for the compliment.

Hugging Dawn she told her softly, “She deserves to know, Dawnie.

“And I need to know whether this is real?

Tara's heart broke when Dawnie looked up at her, “How real am I?

Gripping her tight to her breast she answered.

“You feel real enough to me, Dawnie.

Third one this morning to be posted; all birthday pressies for elisi; this one was written after I woke up this morning, so definitely more to come, and about a dozen; including the ones already posted written.

TITLE: The Key for a Father's Love

  AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

  FANDOM: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

  CHARACTERS: Lisa's father; Dawn Summers;

SUMMARY: Dawn thinks she's been so careful...

A/N: After the Valentine's fic, but early in their dating relationship; Dawn is still learning about her girlfriend's father...

“Not so formal Dawn; not as if this is a date after all, “ grinning wickedly as his offhand remark made her blush.

Had to keep the pain in check though; so much did it remind him of his wife.

Even after all this time he could hear Lisa's mother admonishing his evil humor, fresh pangs his just reward.

He could see so much of them in this girl and his daughter it was hard to remember they were still children. He had to though; hard not to think he could see their future.

He could only hope Lisa's was happier.

Another finished drabble in this set of birthday fics for elisi; don't know yet how many there will finally be (had the feeling that there were more to come, but I couldn't keep my eyes open).

  TITLE: Summers in the Shadows

  AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

  FANDOM: Buffy the Vampire Slayer,

  CHARACTERS: Spike; Dawn Summers; Lisa; Clem; Buffy Summers; Tara Maclay;

SUMMARY: For some creatures promises mean more than their own safety.

A/N: This is set after Dawn and Lisa have started dating, but before their relationship is public; especially where Buffy is concerned.

Obeying his own conscience; rather than the witches threats, he watched them from the shadows.

For her mother's sake; their mothers' sakes in fact.

In any case Clem had let their secret out long since; inwardly pleased the Slayer didn't know.

He had the same respect for the kid's dad Tara did; man had a reputation that impressed him almost as much as his daughter.

He'd learned never to underestimate someone just because she was a girl, and the kid was as tough as any Slayer; tough enough to be a Summers woman in fact, he chuckled quietly to himself.

Wrote more than a dozen stories last night/this morning; this is the first to be transcribed and posted. They will not be posted in chronological order; nor in the order they came out of my brain. They are all set in the same femalehusband!verse that sees Tara and Faith as a couple. Should be posting a master list sticky post for that 'verse, but I think I'll do the 22'verse one first as posting these fics will take a couple of days.

They are all a belated birthday pressie for elisi, which I hope she will enjoy.

  TITLE: Love in the Shadows

  AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

  FANDOM: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

  CHARACTERS: Hank Summers; Spike;

  LENGTH: 100,

SUMMARY: Dawn's wedding; a father uninvited, and a vampire risking... things...

A/N: This is set a little earlier in the day of the wedding of Dawn and Lisa; also, of course, Faith and Tara; also Andrew, and someone who has yet to be revealed.

      He felt so cowardly.

“I wanted to thank you for... you know,

Spike shrugged; lighting a cigarette, trying to seem indifferent.

   “Just stay at the back.

Hank watched his daughters talking at the front of the Marquee; wondering distractedly what they meant to this man, so willing to risk their anger so he could be here for Dawn's wedding.

“Ain't you I'm worried about mate; just protecting my bollocks from the Slayer.

   “I don't want to...

“Don't want her having them off for bringing you do I?

Hank nodded, and settled into a chair before such circumstances could be set in motion.

Second story in a row to feature Rona; only the second with Vi though I think. One of the more memorable things, other than a couple of spectacular episodes, about a rather dreary final season were these two characters; that moment on the bus after the final battle!

TITLE: The Pitfalls, and Potentials of an Office Friendship.

AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

FANDOM: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (AU version of Jet Wolf's BtVS Continuation)

CHARACTERS: Vi; Rona;

LENGTH: 100,

SUMMARY: Walking the line between friendship and more can be tricky...

A/N: Always wanted to explore some of the stories of those potentials we saw in S7; especially Rona and Vi, who seemed to form an unexpected bond. They've both appeared in various stories over the years; Rona especially appearing in a command role a couple of times. This will hopefully be the first in a series exploring their relationship, which I can promise will not follow a stereotypical path. This is set at a celebration of a significant anniversary in the history of the Slayers.

The party had carried on well into the morning.

Neither Vi, nor Rona could vouchsafe that, since they'd ended up swimming naked in the pool in the gardens; foolish since they'd been drunk.

They'd kissed whilst drying each other off; waking up still entangled.

They'd grown to be fast, though not inseparable, friends since meeting as Potentials in the war against the First Evil.

While neither regretted it, neither had they expected it either; nor were they quite sure what to do about it now it had happened.

Though they were both sober when they did sit down to talk.

  AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

CHARACTERS: Klyn; Deva; (Blake; Jenna's Mother),

  WORD COUNT: 100

Klyn arrived with a mining team; Deva a few months later, as part of the process transitioning Gauda Prime to Federation Authority.

Both recognised Blake for who he was as soon as they saw him.

Their silence earned his grudging trust.

Both had known Jenna's mother personally; Klyn had been at the University when she had been forced into hiding; Deva an old flame.

Having found their own ways into the fight to resist the Administration's ever tightening grip they stayed hidden at his behest as he built an army.

     Neither believed Blake would succeed.

     Better to die fighting though.

What if the Body Swap between Faith and Buffy was not reversed? This is set decades after the canonical Body Swap. Decades in which a very nasty, and very cold war has existed between those who support the Slayers Council, and the diminishing remnants of the old Watchers Council. A search has been going on for one prisoner; few believe she still exists; even fewer know she does.

     Der Töter was whispered.

Now we reach the tenth and final drabble in the, intended, birthday series of yore for elisi . After a wee bit of a *cough* delay anyway.

All ten are, or have been, connected to the events described in Chao-Ahn's message in http://kerkevik-2014.livejournal.com/104604.html which means that the origin story of this 'verse begins with its progenitors demise. There are many different roads to travel, and Spike will appear now and then; mysteries to be solved; snark to be dispensed, and strange messages from the beyond – and possibly sandwiches...

TITLE: “The Carnival is Over.”

AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

CHARACTERS: Illyria; Spike,

WORD COUNT: 100,

A/N: “A single flow'r he sent me, since we met.

All tenderly his messenger he chose;

Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet -

One perfect rose.

I knew the language of the floweret;

'My fragile leaves', it said. 'his heart enclose'.

Love long has taken for his amulet

One perfect rose.

Why is it no one ever sent me yet

One perfect limousine, do you suppose?

Ah no, it's always just my luck to get

One perfect rose.

(One Perfect Rose by Dorothy Parker)

Part Ten: “The Carnival is Over.”

When she caught up with The Pet the battle was all but over.

He was as a berserker; ploughing through their serried ranks, even as they cut him down.

Again, and again.

He was singing.

Not the familiar folklore She associated with his maternal parent; one of more modern issue which, as she recalled him in his agony, brought a chill to her bones.

As furiously as she fought her way to him, she still could but watch him brought to his knees at the last.

She slaughter'd; hearing him faintly carolling as, last of the Old Ones, Illyria mourned.

* This is the song our hero is singing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAPMrg5Ct-I This song has played through my head repeatedly every time I've written in this 'verse – at least where Spike has been involved; mosr especially every time I see his last fight.

This is the ninth and penultimate drabble in the ten part series that I set out to write for elisi 's birthday back in 2012. This is one song I know wasn't in the original list, since I only knew what it was I wanted to write when I realised that Riley & Sam Finn were a pair in the stories they featured in; this then connected back to Illyria, and we get the La Ronde theme revealed.

Having been beating myself up for never finishing this series I think maybe I needed to get to a point where I could see them, or maybe hear them.

TITLE: “Lola.”

AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

CHARACTERS: Illyria; Riley Finn; Sam Finn,

PAIRINGS: Riley/Sam;

WORD COUNT: 100,

A/N: “Why, now, blow wind, swell billow and swim bark!

The storm is up and all is on the hazard!”

(from Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare)

Part Nine: “Lola.”

The Finns consumed; discussing missions with The Pet.

Like most Humans they often saw only what they expected to see.

He was easily understood; a Hero of the olden times, oft-prepared to die before compromise.

The female was less easily read; outwardly pragmatic, this only seemed so because her end goals were so certain; nought could deflect her.

She accepted that if this Dark Slayer were seeking them, they would have to move; she took their word they would contact Angelus.

She needed him to arrive to help save The Pet.

But when she got back The Pet was gone.

This is the eighth of my ten-part 22'verse series of drabbles, originally intended for elisi 's birthday back in 2012. Obviously this got derailed a little, but recently I managed to get back on track and completed the series. Having written several more stories, with increasingly insistent, and important, characters I felt the need to go back and re-edit the 'origin' story of this 'verse. I plan to finish posting the ten fics tonight; early morning now, here in Scotland.

TITLE: “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.”

AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

CHARACTERS: Faith; Riley Finn; Sam Finn,

PAIRING: Riley/Sam;

WORD COUNT: 100,

A/N: “Not to say what everyone else was saying

not to believe what everyone else believed

not to do what everybody did,

then to refute what everyone else was saying

then to disprove what everyone else believed

then to deprecate what everybody did,

was his way to come by understanding

how everyone else was saying the same as he was saying

believing what he believed

and did what doing.”

(Different by Clere Parsons)

Part Eight: “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.”

What makes you think we know anything?

Faith kept her thoughts to herself as Riley and Sam tried to stonewall her; pondering that Sam would soon outrank her husband. Having won a bet with Kennedy; got Red drunk to make sure she knew how to win the wager first, she'd followed Kenn to where the Finns were operating.

Jail having taught her patience she waited until Kenn left before she snuck inside to wait for them to return from whatever gig she'd sent them on.

She'd also read B's diary.

Faith knew how to keep her intelligence to herself too.

TITLE: “When a Man Loves a Woman.”

AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

CHARACTERS: Faith; Xander,

PAIRING: Faith/Xander;

WORD COUNT: 100

A/N: “You only love

when you love in vain.

Try another radio probe

when ten have failed,

take two hundred rabbits

when a hundred have died:

only this is science.

You ask the secret.

It has just one name:

again.

In the end

a dog carries in his jaws

his image in the water,

people rivet the new moon,

I love you.

Like caryatids

our lifted arms

hold up time's granite load

and defeated

We shall always win.

(Ode to joy by Miroslav Holub)

Part Seven: “When a Man Loves a Woman.”

“Think a good fuck will help?

Faith was pissed.

I never asked that of you.

She fell quiet for a second; then swore under her breath.

He took her hand; kissing it. “I can't love you both?

She didn't pull her hand from his; but she did search his expression.

You love her more than me?” Which he'd never denied; his eventual response surprising her.

And for a lot longer,” adding, before she could answer that, “You love Buffy as much as I do.

Faith nodded ruefully, for this she could not deny either.

Matter settled, they made love.

This is the sixth of a ten-part drabble series set in the 22'verse, and originally intended for elisi 's birthday three years ago. TITLE: “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.”

AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

CHARACTERS: Xander; Buffy,

WORD COUNT:100,

A/N: “The power of the night, the press of the storm,

The post of the foe;

Where he stands, the Arch Fear in a visible form,

Yet the strong man must go.”

(Prospice by Robert Browning)

Part Six: “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay”

Xander sat down beside Buffy; silently joining her in contemplating the fishermen landing their catches. He wanted to ask how she was doing, but changed his mind when she gently rested her head on his shoulder.

They both understood that she was handling Spike's death, but didn't want to talk about it just now. Not that they talked much these days; he was simply here for an old friend if she did want to talk.

They talked about his marriage to Faith some; other simple things, until the sun eventually went down, then he left her alone and went off to find his wife.

This is the fifth, and last, of the half completed ten part drabble series I was writing for elisi 's birthday three years ago. At this point I started to get far too complicated; possibly clever too, and drifted away from what had been my intended plan for the series. Recently I was able to recover that headspace I'd been in and finish the series; at least as close as I could get to my original idea.

This part will be behind a cut, as it gets pretty R-rated as Buffy forces Spike's 'That one time' secret from Satsu.

Part Four: “Standing in the Shadows of Love.”

Tomorrows game's on,” Nina announced to cheers from her class.

Though Satsu's raised eyebrows brought a smile it was obvious how tired she was.

It had to be tough; married as she was to Buffy's first great love.

Satsu's own marriage was hard to avoid; though everyone tried to keep affections discreet.

Even Andrew's married,” Buffy had joked once in bed.

Does he know that?” she'd quipped.

Mischievous, Satsu leant in and whispered, “Not playing?

Nina slapped her wrist.

Her grief was like a raw burn; he was well used to it.

She was staring into the rain sodden sky.

We gotta get out of this place.

Turning her gaze on him she seemed tired.

Your speech has become corrupted.

Too much time around kids?

Are the young ones safely away?

Aye.

Leave us.

He thought to argue her order, but was stayed by her stiff tone.

TITLE: “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?”

AUTHOR: kerkevik_2014

CHARACTER: Spike, Illyria,

WORD COUNT: 100

A/N: From the Death of Beowulf ~ “Beowulf spoke, despite his wounds. (He knew well he'd seen the last of this world's joys, that he'd numbered his last day.) “Now should I give my sons my battle garments, but fate did not grant that I have sons. I ruled the people fifty winters. Not one king among the neighbouring peoples dared greet me with a sword; I feared no one. I awaited my destiny well: never did I plot a quarrel, never did I swear an unjust oath. I take joy in this, despite a mortal wound. The Ruler of Mankind will not charge that I murdered a kinsman when my life departs this body.”

Part One: “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?”

She witnessed the fluttering of the Pet's eyelids; familiar scar obscured by the red life that fled him.

She felt a hand; feeble even for a mortal, inflict pressure on hers.

His breath hissed; nearly inaudible, the Pet uttered one word.

Slayer?

Muscle tightened, unaware it didn't exist.

Hair's the wrong colour.

A smile played on her lips; unwitnessed, for he could not see.

Heavens' tears were heavy in the air; redolent of Autumn and The Fall.

Have you ever seen the rain?

There was puzzlement on her face, she knew.

Then she saw with his clarity; blind as he was.

The Pet slipped away, as the rain fell.

Hardest for me to write; this, the sixth of ten stories about Dawn and Lisa, as the only screen depictions of them in the same scenes were as schoolchildren in “The Body”.
