Ramblings of an Old Kweer

 

 

We are approximately three years past where the TV series ended. In this 'verse the destruction of Sunnydale occurred about a year later and now, two years later, the bulk of the Slayer Army created during those events is based in Pennsylvania, in the town of Trillium.

Institute meant Slayer Central; nobody in town was fooled, but Trillium had never been safer, so The Institute it was.

The nightlife had never been better either, with the males in town satisfyingly better behaved; especially the single guys who were married.

The residents also brought something into Trillium that it had lacked before; a cultural richness that wasn't from books and films; practical, not intellectual.

Dawn showed Lisa the best places in town; which included the library, which had seen its book collection rise stratospherically in quality since their arrival.

Lisa had never expected to feel so at home. 100

 

They talked; able to without worry of being understood by bystanders, about what they felt and needed and wanted, as they walked through shops, before ending at the library's new eaterie.

Neither mentioned missing parents; nor Sunnydale by name, though when they sat down that was all they discussed; almost all.

They were silent for a moment, each having a hand atop one anothers, when a woman; reminding Dawn a little of her mom, rose from the table behind them.

In heavily accented; coded English, she told them she might have a solution for them; apologised for overhearing them too.

Dawn, sweaty and still gasping for breath, started to pull clear of her dozing lover; intending to take a shower.

Lisa didn't seem to move at all, but the arm across Dawn's belly was suddenly holding her firmer, and there was a feint, “No, stay,”

Dawn sighed, and relented; not too reluctantly. Lisa nuzzled at her armpit, and sniffed ostentatiously; she loved the way Dawn smelt after sex.

A lot it seemed.

“I have tasted of the Tree of Knowledge.”

Dawn grinned at the muffled biblical quotation, replying with, “and I wish to Know you as much as I can.”

Dawn bit into her baklava; watching hopefully for Lisa's arrival.

Lisa had stayed in California with her father after Sunnydale's destruction; moving in with relatives in Cleveland for the same reasons Dawn lived with Buffy.

They had different majors; sharing some classes, but the longer travelling time had made this first year at college hard.

It had been a lonely week wondering if she would come this weekend.

They'd fought that last time at college.

She'd always looked forward to remainders week at Trillium's Public Library, and this was the first that conflated with free time for them both.

She knew Lisa would love the old shops in the district in which it sat.

If she... the barista passed her to open the door for Lisa as she walked in; arms full of bags.

She was wearing her mother's necklace.

Dawn, still full of doubt, pain, and insecurity because of her strange existence had.. said...

Lisa had lost her mother too; far too young to have any memories of hers as Dawn was blessed with.

Dropping her bags Lisa rushed to kiss Dawn, ignoring her stickiness; placed fingers over Dawn's lips as she made to speak, then kissed her again.

Hey,

finally; more than a month late, but I absolutely needed to get this one right, especially when I realised; soon after I started typing this (as I was writing it in my head), not too long before midnight here, that it would need more than one story in it's telling,

This is a month late because it was intended for the birthday of red_satin_doll, which was back on the fourteenth of February. I gave her a hint of what was in my mind. Some characters and motivations have changed since that first image, but none that I hinted at back then.

Anyway, here is the first part of the birthday present, much-belated, that I wish to present to [personal profile] red_satin_doll. Apologies for not even having a clue as to when the conclusion will be ready, but I have no intention of rushing that either.
