How about Italian poets?

Giuseppe Ungaretti and Eugenio Montale are perhaps the most famous Italian poets to have written about the Great War.

"Soldati" (Soldiers) by Ungaretti is one of my favourite poems:
Si sta come
d'autunno
sugli alberi
le foglie

Here's a reading.

And here's a few translations:

It's like being
in the autumn
on the trees
the leaves

They stand
like leaves
on the trees
in autumn

Soldiers
are like
the leaves on
the trees in
the fall
